Universal Inks Deal With ZTT Records

New York, New York, July 24, 1998 - Universal Records has inked a distribution agreement with U.K.-based ZTT Records for the United States and Canada, it was jointly announced today by Universal Music Group Chairman/CEO Doug Morris, Vice Chairman Mcl Lewinter and ZTT Managing Director Jill Sinclair.

With distribution, marketing and promotional support provided by Universal, ZTT will begin releasing product by the end of this year. Known for discovering and launching the career of multi-platinum recording artist and songwriter Seal, ZTT was founded in 1983 by Sinclair and Grammy Award-winning producer Trevor Horn.

Among ZTT's first releases under this agreement will be albums from 808 State and Adamski's Thing. ZTT's roster also includes Art of Noise, The Frames, Shane MacGowan, Heights of Abraham and Lee Griffiths, among others.

"I've wanted to work with Jill and Trevor for some time now. I see in them all of the qualities of true creative entrepreneurs--the ability to recognise and nurture talent, to establish solid industry relationships, and to pursue a winning vision," stated Morris. "I am excited that they have become part of the Universal family."

"Jill and Trevor have developed one of the most creative and successful independent labels in the market," commented Lewinter. "Universal is uniquely poised to give ZTT the right platform for their artists to grow even further."

"In today's business, it is very difficult to find such extraordinary record men like Doug Morris and Mel Lewinter," added Sinclair. "What makes our pact with Universal such a natural part of ZTT's expansion is the commitment we share to our artist and their music. We look forward to working closely with Doug, Mel, Joccelyn Cooper (Sr. Vice President and Special Assistant to the Chairman, Universal Music Group), Kim Garner (Vice President, Marketing, Universal Records), and the entire Universal staff."
